THE POSTWAR REGIMENT

The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada continue to live on today.  In addition to training for all Phases of Battle, with every light infantry weapon, it's members ensure that the traditions both young and old will survive far into the future.

The regiment trains every Thursday between September and May.  Throughout the year the regiment also conducts day training or week-end exercises, and frequently deploys to CFB Chilliwack or Ft. Lewis Washington.

During "spring break' in March of each year Cougar Salvo is held in Ft. Lewis Washington.  This weeklong exercise allows the soldiers to “live” fire nearly all of the infantry weapons, and utilizes many of the training facilities that are at Ft. Lewis.

Many solders within the Regiment also take advantage of training with British Army units.  In 1998 in Ft Lewis and in 1999 in Wainwright, Alberta.  Members of the Regiment were able to train with our Sister Regiment, 1BN The Highlanders.  Our soldiers were able to work alongside their Scottish counterparts in Platoon and Battle Group live fire exercises, as well as take part in adventure training.

The rewards of service are many, even in difficult times.  The friendships that are forged in the Regimental Family under the trials of a constantly challenging job will last a lifetime.

There have been many opportunities for members of the Seaforths to serve overseas on various exercises and operations.  Dozens of Seaforths have served in Norway, Germany, Egypt, Cyprus, and on UN and NATO missions in the Former Yugoslavia.

This wealth of experience that serves at all levels translates to a training schedule that is both challenging and realistic.  This ensures that those who choose to serve overseas have the skills necessary to do so.
