The Cadet Corps was raised in 1912 as the No. 72 Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Cadet Battalion. Through the years many Seaforths who passed through the ranks of the cadets went on to illustrious careers in the Army, Navy, Air Force and business world. Of these there are many who were decorated for valour including one Victoria Cross. Others went on to command the regiment and some, like Major General B.M. Hoffmeister, Brigadier H.P. Bell-Irving, and Brigadier-General Anderson, attained General ranks. It has not been uncommon for those starting their military careers with the Seaforths to serve in excess of Forty years. One such man was Edmund Esson who spent thirty years as the Pipe Major. He joined as a cadet in 1919 and served for forty-six years.
